Raising Cattle Responsibly
For Five Generations
The name Landeau comes from the town of Landeau (pop. 20) that was built in the 1920's along Snake Creek, which runs through one of our pastures. The town boasted a school house, several homes, a store and stockyard next to the railroad siding for loading and shipping cattle out to market. In 1937 the town was taken by a flood and totally destroyed except for the school house. The school, teacher and students miraculously survived due to the fence surrounding the school, which diverted the water around it. The only evidence of the town now is bits of foundation that can be seen peeking up through the tall grass.
From 1979 to 2010 we ran a commercial cow/calf operation of Red Angus/Cross cattle along with a small herd of registered Line 1 Herefords. Deciding to downsize our operation, we sold the Herefords and Angus and began looking in earnest at American Milking Red Devon cattle. Discovering that the Devons are critically endangered, we felt that the breed and their genetics needed to be preserved.
